Simone's Big Adventure

Simone had a bigger adventure than we would have imagined this month. Carley’s brother Matt has been living in a house with a large fenced lot near the school where Carley works. In order to give Simone a little break from the daily “kitchen time” she endures when Carley and Gary go to work, Carley dropped Simone off to play for the day with her chocolate-lab cousin Wyatt.

Matt left later that morning to go to work, leaving Simone and Wyatt in the yard to play. Simone had stayed over unsupervised before (after all, she is over 21 in human years!) with no problems, and it was assumed that today would be no different. Well, later that afternoon, Gary arrived home from work to find a rather alarming message on the answering machine. A woman had called because she had seen Simone down by the Starbucks on the very busy corner of Plumb and Arlington (approximately half a mile from Matt’s house!). This lady was kind enough to follow Simone (who had very responsibly chosen to walk on the sidewalk!) all of the way back to Matt’s house. Simone kept scratching at the gate, so the woman got out of her car and let Simone back into the yard where Wyatt was waiting. Fortunately Simone had her harness with her ID tag on, so the lady was able to get Carley and Gary’s phone number and call to relate the address of where Simone was (not knowing that Simone had gone back to the place we expected to pick her up!). When Carley picked Simone up that evening, it was discovered that FedEx had delivered a package that day and had probably been the reason Simone had her outing. Although it would have been nice had she just stayed in the yard, thank goodness she was able to get her mile jog in on a busy street without getting hurt!
